Fail & Learn

We don’t try new things because we don’t want to ‘fail’.

The notion of failure is a fundamental barrier to innovation because you won't find a straight path to a challenging goal. You need to be prepared to stumble along the way and to extract as much learning from each experience as possible.

If you're serious about creating an innovative culture you need to reject the notion of failure. If something doesn’t pan out reflect and throw everything you can in the learning bucket and move on. Over time that learning bucket will be so rich in knowledge that it will guide you to where you want to go.

One of the best ways to learn from any experience is to share it - don’t keep negative outcomes to yourself. By sharing you open yourself up to insight and perspective from others that enhance your learnings.

Remove the word ‘failure’ from your vocabulary. Replace it with ‘learn’.
